During the 60th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW60), the first-ever CSW Youth Forum was organized from 11th to 12th March in New York. The Forum brought together approximately 300 young women and young men from around the world, who made this historic event a success. They raised their collective voices on issues of importance to youth everywhere.

On March 17th, the Youth Forum issued an official 2016 YouthCSW Declaration on Gender Equality and the Human Rights of Young Women and Girls. The uniform voices from the young delegates highlighted the importance to work during childhood and adolescence, which are seen as a window of opportunity to formulate positive attitudes and behaviors, as well as the opportunity to advance gender equality and Agenda 2030 for sustainable development. They raised their voices and made their demand clear that young people are in the driver’s seat and they’re ready to achieve gender equality.

Hosted by the World YWCA, UN Women, and the UN Inter-Agency Network on Youth Developments Working Group on Youth and Gender Equality, the CSW Youth Forum marked the first time youth have participated in the official Commission on the Status of Women program.
