The 3rd MenEngage Alliance Global Symposium will take place from 7 to 10 November 2020 in Kigali, Rwanda

Nov 07 2020 - Nov 11 2020

FR | ES

Where do we stand globally on men’s responsibilities, involvement, accountability, and action on gender justice? What are the relations to other forms of injustice? How far have we come on the commitments to engage men and boys as part of the Beijing Platform for Action? How do we best support the rights of all women and girls – and people of all sexual orientations and gender identities? What are the shared hopes and aspirations for ‘men and masculinities’ work on gender equality for the next five to ten years?

Throughout 2020 – and culminating in our 3rd Global Symposium in November – we are building momentum around critical questions and reflections like these.

This Alliance-wide effort aims to share, reflect upon, consolidate, and learn from past experiences. At the same time, we will be looking to the future, and asking how feminist-informed work with men and boys, and the transformation of patriarchal masculinities, can meaningfully contribute to gender justice in the next decade and beyond.

The Global Board of MenEngage Alliance and local partner and host Rwanda Men’s Resource Center (RWAMREC), together with Rwanda MenEngage Network and MenEngage Africa, invite you to be part of this global gathering.

How can I get involved throughout 2020?

For now, we hope you will begin the personal and collective process – in your own spaces and contexts – of imagining what the Symposium will be like. This includes the themes, topics and agendas, as well as the kinds of formats, discussions and spaces we want to create.

As a member or partner of MenEngage Alliance, you will have opportunities to share your ideas and priorities through various channels – including activities coordinated by the regional network in your respective region. Further details on how to do so will be shared in due course, and will vary depending on which regional network you are affiliated with.

For a comprehensive overview of the Symposium, and how you can support or participate, please read the Symposium Concept Note.

How can I attend the Symposium in November?

More than 500 people from different regions, contexts and backgrounds are expected to participate in the Symposium in Kigali. In addition, there will be a MenEngage Alliance general members’ assembly meeting on 11 November, in which the Alliance members can participate. Further details on how to register for the Symposium and general members meeting, and recommendations and opportunities for funding to attend, will be shared in the coming months.

How can I confirm my membership of MenEngage Alliance?

As part of the Symposium and broader mobilization efforts, all existing members (plus those interested in becoming a member), will be invited to reaffirm their commitment to our updated Core Principles, Code of Conduct, and Accountability Standards. As part of a consultative and participatory process, these foundational documents are currently being updated. Together, they are the ‘glue’ that binds the diverse membership of the Alliance together, as well as our collective agreements to which we all hold each other accountable.

The updated texts – and invitation to reaffirm your support and accountable commitment to them – will be shared in advance of the Kigali Symposium.

Where can I find updates?

For now, the best way to keep informed of updates is via our global newsletter mailing list and on this webpage.

How will COVID-19 affect the event?

MenEngage Alliance is monitoring developments related to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak and potential impact on international travel. We are currently moving forward with the 3rd Global Symposium organizing and any changes will be communicated immediately.

For the most up-to-date information regarding the virus, please refer to the World Health Organization situation reports

We encourage all to continue with their plans for attendance as we continue to create another great symposium but, suggest getting clear about cancellation policies should the event have to be postponed or cancelled
