We’re pleased to share with you the MenEngage Alliance 2014 annual report: MenEngage Annual Report 2014
Better than any other publication, it records many of the achievements of MenEngage members and partners, as well as the advocacy and network-building efforts of the Global Secretariat, and weaves them into the compelling narrative of a growing, global movement.
The annual report serves several functions: as a record of accomplishments, best practices, and the evolution of the network’s structure; as a vehicle to organize thinking about the capacities, resources, challenges and potential of MenEngage; and as inspiration for the way forward.
Among the 2014 highlights reviewed in the report:
- The Second MenEngage Global Symposium in New Delhi, which drew more than 1200 participants from 94 countries “to discuss, exchange and learn about the work that hundreds of civil society organizations, activists, academics, government officials, donors and UN agencies are doing to engage men and boys in achieving gender equality;”
- The ongoing evolution of MenEngage’s structure toward an inclusive, democratic governance model designed “to facilitate increased participation, clearer decision-making processes and greater effectiveness within the Alliance and thereby help it become a sustainable, independent network.”
- The increasing visibility of MenEngage as a credible voice and partner in global advocacy efforts for women’s rights, gender equality and the engagement of men and boys in achieving these goals, for example, by organizing events and presenting statements at the Commission on the Status of Women and developing advocacy tools for the Post-2015 Development Agenda and the Beijing+20 process; and
- The activation of accountability mechanisms to ensure member’s adherence to the principles and values of the Alliance.
Overall, it looks back on 2014 as a time of transition for MenEngage that foretells a stronger and more effective Alliance as we move forward together:
“Balancing the challenges of simultaneously building the internal operational capacity of the MenEngage Global Secretariat and implementing the diverse initiatives committed to in the strategic plan, we have been moving forward. The multiple opportunities for exchanges and joint activities that took place this year have consolidated a common identity and strengthened the sense of community among MenEngage partners, as we all share a deep commitment to gender transformation and gender equality.”
