Men, Masculinities, Patriarchy & Feminist Foreign Policies
A paper exploring the evolution of Feminist Foreign Policy (FFP), and examining how a focus on men and masculinities fits in—or could fit in—with its design, implementation, and impact.
Please note this resource has been temporarily removed while we work on a summary version, which will be published in due course. This paper does not advocate for the inclusion of men and boys in all FFPs, but does recommend that such an approach can add value when done through a robust feminist political framework. On the other hand, when not included in accountable and ethical ways, ‘men and masculinites’ can lead to harmful FFP outcomes. The paper analyses the extent to which current FFPs incorporate this lens and the value it may offer to broader feminist foreign policy practice.
Who will find this resource useful?
This document is for civil society organizations and other stakeholders. It explores how involving men and boys and challenging traditional patriarchal views of masculinity can strengthen Feminist Foreign Policies. The focus is on integrating these efforts through feminist approaches that aim to dismantle patriarchal power structures, from individual actions to systemic changes.
