This workshop was held jointly with PLAN International, The African Women’s Development and Communication Network (FEMNET), MenEngage Kenya Network (MenKen), International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) and the Coalition of African Lesbians (CAL).
The consultative meeting was unique in bringing together representatives from all these different sectors. The event developed a regional agenda to scale-up work to engage men for gender equality within the region, identified joint priorities and ways to strengthen partnerships between these sectors, and ensured that the work of MenEngage Africa remains accountable to women’s rights organizations, including positive women’s networks, SRHR, LGBTI, and child rights organizations.
This workshop also identified gaps and good practices in advocating and advancing children’s rights work, and proposed future activities for MenEngage Africa to strengthen its work and campaigning on child rights, male involvement in SRHR with a particular focus on children and young people, LGBTI human rights advocacy and women’s empowerment.
