From fast-changing media and political narratives, to the complexities of the digital ‘manosphere,’ the global discourse on masculinity is at a pivotal turning point. We are seeking a creative communicator who is deeply immersed in these cultural and political trends and possesses the technical expertise to translate them into digital action.
As Communications Officer, you will tap into the collective wisdom of the world’s largest civil-society community dedicated to engaging men and boys in gender equality. You will support the team in leveraging our collective influence to shift narratives and social justice outcomes across media, policy, and public discourse.
Reporting to the Communications Manager, this role is designed for a storyteller and coordinator who is driven by the ‘how’ of male engagement and deeply committed to the radical reimagining of masculinity for the benefit of all.

Communications officer profile
- A Movement-Oriented Communicator: You are rooted in activist or ‘artivist’ spaces and understand how to use media as a tool for social transformation.
- A Cultural Analyst: You maintain a deep pulse on contemporary conversations around masculinities — ranging from pop culture and cinema to shifting digital trends and influencer discourse.
- Politically Engaged: You bring a grassroots energy to your work. You are politically informed, bold in your commitment to gender justice, and driven by intersectional feminist principles.
- Practitioner-Informed: You possess practical and/or lived experience connecting directly with men and boys. You understand the nuances, language, and methodologies required to engage authentically in the public ‘men and boys’ conversation.
- Technical & Creative Specialist: You possess the technical proficiency to develop high-impact communications, including graphic design, sharp copywriting, and the production of engaging short-form video content.
Key Competencies
- Professional Experience: A minimum of 5 years in communications within the non-profit or social justice sector, with a demonstrated track record of balancing creative output with administrative coordination;
- Strong grasp of intersectional feminism and the ‘men and masculinities’ field: Whether through lived experience, academic study, or other means, a strong understanding of key concepts of intersectional feminism – and how they can be applied to ‘men and masculinities’ – is crucial;
- Passion for social media impact in the ‘men and masculinities’ space: The ideal candidate will be someone with a drive for being on top of the latest social media trends relating to men and masculinities and leveraging opportunities to enter and shift public discourse;
- Sharp and creative eye for graphic design and visual content: A track record and portfolio of high-quality visual materials for digital mediums is essential, along with a demonstrable understanding of key graphic design methods and concepts;
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills: Proven ability to develop high-quality written English-language content, and a demonstrated passion and excellence in writing, including about gender justice issues from an intersectional feminist lens, and in accessible language, digesting complex topics into clear, relatable, and compelling content for diverse audiences and channels;
- Technical Proficiency: Skilled in graphic design (Canva/Adobe Creative Suite), video editing, and the management of CMS and CRM/Email marketing platforms.
- Values Alignment: A profound commitment to the MenEngage Accountability Framework, decoloniality, and intersectional feminist institutional cultures.
- Highly organized, independent, and proactive; Demonstrated ability to work together to achieve an impact towards our mission and vision in a dynamic remote team environment;
- Adept with marketing tools such as e‑marketing, CMS and CRM systems, project management tools, social media planning and insight tools etc;
- Video storytelling and editing: A portfolio of videos produced, filmed, or edited is desirable;
- Experience working with external creative professionals and coordinating the production of digital, audiovisual, and graphic designed materials, ensuring careful adherence to our brand guidelines
Responsibilities
Working with and reporting to the Communications Manager to coordinate and implement:
- The dissemination of reports, announcements, events, and other relevant activities — from planning through to follow-up communications and knowledge management;
- The coordination of content at menengage.org, ensuring the timely upload of new material. This includes pages for: networks, approaches, work areas, events, member profiles and others;
- The publication of our global newsletter every 2 weeks, in coordination with the Communications Intern if available, to our global mailing list of researchers, academics, policy makers, donors, governments, and practitioners;
- Development and posting of social media content across channels, ensuring timely, relevant, and impactful content, responding to comments/engagement, as well as learning from social media insights;
- Coordination of our Global Communications Working Group, including scheduling of meetings, sending reminders, and preparing minutes;
- The mobilisation of members, networks, and partners for joint campaigns and activities. Working together with the Global Secretariat — and in particular the Communications Manager — the Communications Officer will be a key member of the team in the campaign cycle of planning, implementation, evaluation, and learning;
- Digital storytelling, leveraging our extensive archive of knowledge as well as identifying and amplifying the innovative and powerful stories and expertise from across and beyond our network.
