Consultancy brief: Graphic designer
MenEngage Alliance requires a freelance graphic designer or small design team working on an ongoing basis with the ability to produce designs and templates with a fast turnaround, and through a system of prioritising the latest needs, and in support of our strategic communications and knowledge-sharing goals
About MenEngage Alliance
MenEngage Alliance is an international network of civil society organizations working to transform unequal power-relations and dismantle patriarchy through transforming masculinities and engaging men and boys to advance women’s rights and gender justice for all.
The Alliance unites civil society organizations, activists, academics, and other stakeholders from more than 1000 organizations across 84 countries, working together through country and regional networks.
The Alliance plays a pivotal role in shaping the discourse and agenda on transforming masculinities and engaging men and boys within the broader movement for women’s rights and gender justice, particularly in the areas of gender-based violence prevention, advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights for all, redistributing unpaid care-work, and advancing gender, peace and security. The Global Secretariat is a small team based in Africa, Europe, the United States, and South Asia, and working fully remotely. See this handbook for an overview of what we believe, what we see, and our strategic approaches.
The design need
MenEngage Alliance has a number of design needs to support various communications goals including: event promotion, report design and dissemination, social media impact, and presentation designs, among others. We regularly publish new resources and materials, and wish to ensure they are well-presented in order to maximise their readability, engagement, usefulness, and impact. For this reason, we are seeking a freelance graphic designer or small design team who is able to work as an extension of the small communications team of the MenEngage Global Secretariat.
The designer needs to be able to create:
- Social media graphics
- Event flyers
- Report layouts
- Presentation slide templates
- Policy briefs
- Social media banners
The ideal designer should be able to work flexibly around the peaks and troughs of demand, linked to busy periods of events and campaigns throughout the year. They should also be able to utilize existing illustrations, graphics, and MenEngage style guidelines. The designs should be professional, engaging, inclusive, and consistent across English, Spanish, and French versions.
For social media content, it is crucial that the designs are made in Canva so they can be accessed and contextualised—making them a resource pool for the many networks and members of MenEngage Alliance.
The designs should emphasise our brand as professional, bold, clear, accessible, and reflect the progressive activism of MenEngage members.
This Consultancy is a Great Fit if You:
- Are passionate about design and its power to create a positive impact in the world.
- See design as one creative piece of a larger communications challenge when it comes to social justice activism, advocacy and shifting norms.
- Possess a passion for creating inclusive designs and have familiarity with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, and understand diversity, equity, and inclusion as a fundamental aspect of design, not an afterthought.
- Love working as part of a diverse and dynamic team, and thrive working on the basis of creative partnership to arrive at the most impactful communications materials possible for the task at hand
- Recognise that design is not a linear process, and involves creative interplay of both words and design elements as well as a process of creative inputs, refinement, shifts in direction, and learning.
- Are highly proficient in graphic design software like Adobe Suite, Affinity—and including Canva in order to broaden access to—and adaptability of—the design materials being produced.
- Can adapt designs to multiple languages, and understand the challenges and opportunities of multilingual design
- Possess an exceptional eye for detail, ensuring precision and quality in every design.
- Have significant experience crafting a wide range of high-quality design materials for diverse audiences and needs.
- Are adept at interpreting and consistently applying brand guidelines, ensuring designs genuinely reflect an organization’s values, mission, and vision.
- Can manage multiple projects efficiently, deliver quick turnarounds, and collaborate closely with the Global Secretariat of MenEngage Alliance to prioritize design tasks effectively.
- Are fluent in English. Other languages would be an advantage including Spanish, French, Korean and Arabic.
