South Asia
MenEngage Alliance South Asia (MEASA) was formed in 2007. We are now a network of more than 240 members across five country networks – Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. We aim to provide a collective voice around transforming patriarchal masculinities and engaging men and boys for gender and social justice in South Asia.
We work as partners and allies for women’s rights, LGBTIQ rights, human rights, and gender and social justice in the region. Since its inception the network always had strong relationships with feminist and women’s rights activists, organizations and networks. By adding our collective voices, we aim to act in solidarity with feminist organizations across South Asia and beyond. This includes supporting advocacy efforts at the local, national, regional and international levels.
Other key activities for the region have included workshops, community engagement activities, and awareness-raising campaigns. Often led by country networks in the region, activities have tackled a range of issues including gender-based violence, early and forced marriages, unpaid care work, peace and conflict, and how masculinity is portrayed in the media.
