5 P’s and Men’s Identities in Times of Crisis

This resource explains how "masculinity" is understood and experienced during times of crisis.

Developed by ABAAD and MenEngage Network Lebanon, this accessible one page resource (available in English and Arabic) sheds light on the complexities of men’s identities.

Traditionally, men and ‘manhood’ are explained through the two categories of ‘protector’ and ‘provider.’

However, men are also ‘parents,’ ‘partners,’ and, quite simply, ‘persons.’

In times of emergency, crisis, and grief, many men are boxed into and operate from a narrow understanding of ‘protector’ and ‘provider.’ While many men recognize their roles as protectors and providers, it is essential to reflect on the true meaning of these roles alongside other key responsibilities.
