Members meet to review and discuss global plans
Members of MenEngage Alliance from across the world joined a Townhall event on 16 February to learn about and share inputs on the global plans for MenEngage Alliance in 2023.
The Townhall event, which took place online, was an opportunity to share inputs, thoughts, questions, and ideas for how the MenEngage Alliance community can jointly work towards our shared mission and vision in 2023 and beyond. The global co-chairs, as well as other representatives from the Global Board, joined the session, which was facilitated by the Global Secretariat of MenEngage Alliance.
Some of the questions that came up during the Townhall event included:
- How do we connect more between national, regional, and global activities of MenEngage Alliance
- How do the working groups of MenEngage Alliance work?
- How can I get more involved in advocacy and campaigns?
- What is the reaffirmation process and the Accountability Framework of MenEngage Alliance?
The MenEngage Alliance Global Secretariat committed to factoring these questions into communications plans during 2023.
It is expected that further Townhall events will be held multiple times per year. These spaces are envisioned to provide greater opportunities for members at the grassroots of MenEngage Alliance to engage in collective agenda-setting for the network.
Samitha Sugathamala, co-chair of MenEngage Alliance and regional coordinator for MenEngage Alliance South Asia, remarked: “The Townhall events are a moment to come together as a community, in a space open to all members from around the world. It is a space for strengthening our shared understanding of what it means to be part of this global community and bring collective care and stand in solidarity . And an opportunity to share learnings and challenges across regions, and be more involved in shaping activities towards our shared mission of transforming patriarchal masculinities and working with men and boys for gender justice.”
The next opportunity for members of MenEngage Alliance to join a global gathering will be the annual Members’ Assembly, which will take place online, mid-2023. It is hoped that there will then be an additional Townhall event towards the end of 2023, for members to share inputs to the 2024 Annual Plan.
