White Ribbon
White Ribbon is the world’s largest movement of men and boys working to end violence against women and girls, promote gender equity, healthy relationships and a new vision of masculinity. Since its inception in Toronto in 1991, White Ribbon Campaign initiatives have been organized in over 60 countries around the world. Among its many calls to action, White Ribbon asks men to wear white ribbons as a sign of their pledge to never commit, condone or remain silent about all forms of gender-based violence.
As a gender-based violence prevention organization, we value the ongoing work and commitment of diverse women’s organizations and shelters across Canada, and the globe. We work in partnership with women’s organizations, and diverse social justice organizations to advance our shared goals of preventing all forms of gender-based violence. Within our programs, we encourage male-identified folks to be(come) accountable to female-identified, trans, and non-binary folks who face disproportionately higher rates of violence. Men also need to be accountable to each other.
White Ribbon programs use a holistic approach that fosters gender equity and prevents gender-based violence. Our programs are designed to transform gender norms and build male allyship. Our interactive programs are based on best practices and draw upon current events, storytelling, discussions, and activities to help participants understand how they can be part of the solution to end gender-based violence and to inspire them to take action.
White Ribbon leads in systemic change management. Since our inception in 1991, we have been helping workplaces and sectors develop policies, strategies, public education campaigns and training to address a wide range of gender-based violence prevention issues (e.g., sexual violence, human trafficking, sexual harassment, stalking, violence against 2SLGBTQI+ folks, etc).
We have engaged millions of people, brands, organizations and educators through the creative use of social and mobile tools that inspire men to speak out against violence against women.
